About the 28th edition of ISMIS
The 28th International Symposium on Methodologies for Intelligent Systems (ISMIS 2026) took place in Lyon, France, from July 22 to 24, 2026. Continuing a scientific tradition that began in 1986, ISMIS provides an international forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and discuss recent advances in intelligent systems and Artificial Intelligence.
ISMIS 2026 brought together researchers from academia and industry around five major themes: Knowledge Representation and Formal Reasoning, Generative Models and Representation Learning, Reliability, Safety and Explainable AI, Time Series and Stream Learning, and AI for Urban and Environmental Systems. The conference also featured a dedicated Industry Session, strengthening the dialogue between academic research and real-world applications in areas including aviation, agriculture, sustainability, and healthcare.
The conference received 44 international submissions. Following a rigorous single-blind peer-review process, with each paper reviewed by at least three experts, 19 regular papers and 5 industrial papers were accepted for presentation and publication in the proceedings.
The scientific program featured two invited keynote speakers: João Gama, Professor Emeritus at the University of Porto, who presented “Data Streams: Learning and Forgetting”, and Sihem Amer-Yahia from Université Grenoble Alpes, who presented “From Dialogue to Decision: Orchestrating Agents for Conversational Data Exploration and Multi-Objective Optimization.”
ISMIS 2026 was made possible through the commitment of its authors, reviewers, Program Committee, Steering Committee, keynote speakers, Industry Session organizers, and the entire local organizing team. Together, they contributed to a successful edition dedicated to advancing intelligent systems capable of reasoning, learning from complex and evolving data, providing transparent explanations, and supporting responsible AI applications in real-world domains.
